Rajeev Ram has made the second round at Newport following a straight sets victory over Spaniard Ivan Navarro, eventually winning 6-3, 7-6.

In the bottom half of the draw Nicolas Mahut made the second round following a 6-3, 1-6, 6-3 defeat of Alejandro Falla. The Frenchman was the puntinplay selection before the tournament started and given the seeds who fell away today in the bottom half of the draw he must have a great chance of making the last four.
