Well treated El Libertador worth risking at 18/1

(First Published: Thursday 6th October 2011 at 09:52hrs GMT)

El Libertador has been a costly horse to follow this season, but there is no doubting he is very well treated and looks worth one last chance to bounce back at 18/1 in the 7.50 at Wolverhampton tonight.

The five-year-old is certainly not the easiest horse to win with, as his record of just one win from 19 starts confirms, and he has looked tempremental in his last couple of outings.

However his  win came off a mark of 57 at the track and he is no down to a mark of 54.

Eric Wheeler's has put in a couple of eye-catching runs this season, as well as some truly shocking ones!

He ran well when fifth 8th of 13 to Putin at Kempton three starts ago, where although beaten five lengths ran far better than his finishing position suggests

Held up towards the rear travelling strongly, he didn't get the clearest of runs when attempting to make his move two from home and had to be switched to make his effort.

For a moment he looked as if he would pick up the leaders but he was unable to quicken and his run flattened out.

However he was not knocked about at all by Jamie Specner, who quickly accepted the situation and allowed him to come home in his own time to be beaten just under five lengths.

Prior to that effort he had disappointed at Windsor, but in his previous outing at Sandown he had also shaped with plenty of promise.

After being held-up well off the pace he made good headway a furlong from home and stayed on inside without ever threaening to get to the leaders to be beaten just under 5 lengths.

Given his strike rate and questionable attitude he is obviously not one to go overboard with and is a risky punt to say the least.

However he is now undoubtedly well treated if putting his best foot forward, and at the 18/1 on offer with Boylesports looks worth risking.

Recommended bet: 1pt each-way El Libertador (18/1 Boylesports - BOG)
