33/1 shot Vincent van der Voort claimed his maiden PDC Pro Tour title with a 6-2 victory over Wayne Jones in Gladbeck on Saturday.
The 34-year old ploughed his way through the field at the aptly named Van Der Valk Hotel, taking out seasoned PDC pros Dennis Smith (6-5), Andy Smith (6-3), Mark Walsh (6-4), Mark Dudbridge (6-3) & Kevin Painter (6-5) before claiming the £6,000 prize against Wolverhampton's Jones in the final. The Dutchman also missed double twelve for a nine darter in his fourth round win over last week's winner Walsh. He now leapfrogs Australian Simon Whitlock to take his place at number 17 in the PDC Order of Merit.
The four Premier League players on show all exited at the third round stage with Ronnie Baxter, Adrian Lewis, James Wade & Mervyn King being taken care of by Carlos Rodriguez, Dudbridge, Peter Hudson & Painter respectively.
Anastasia Dobromyslova cashed her first Pro Tour cheque of the season; defeating Romano Ruggeri in the opening round before going down to Lewis (6-1) in round two. Jamie Caven again demonstrated his impressive floor form by reaching his second tour semi final of the year before exiting to Jones in the semi finals. 1995 Embassy World Champion Richie Burnett continued his renaissance by taking scalps such as Paul Nicholson & Michael van Gerwen before losing in a deciding leg to Colin Osborne in the last 16.
The largely simliar field return to the same venue on Sunday with Mervyn King (9/1 Sportingbet) once again heading up the market. Van der Voort is 33/1 with Skybet to clinch back-to-back Pro Tour titles.
