Vera value at 6/1

(First Published: Saturday 1st October 2011 at 12:51hrs GMT)

In the chief support to Darren Barkers world middleweight title attempt, Andy Lee (26-1, 10 KOs) is looking to avenge his only career loss in a long overdue rematch against Brian Vera (19-5, 12 Kos) in the early hours of Sunday morning (1am).

Lee  was in front on the judges card when Vera unleashed a barrage of shots and the referee intervened in round 7 with Lee still on his feet. Whilst watching the fight I noted that Vera had a bit too much man for him (as in if it come to a war of attrition Vera would win the battle) and it's certainly interesting that Lee dodged the immediate rematch.

To me this displayed a lack of confidence from the Lee camp in their man, and he has also looked incredibly ordinary in his fights.

Even when since pulling out a last round KO against light punching Craig Mcewan whilst behind on points, there were times in the bout when I think even Lee was doubting himself.

I don’t think he has impressed me once in his performances and I don’t think his record holds up to much scrutiny,  whereas Brian Vera is a different breed of man.

He is a tough and proud rugged guy who leaves his all in the ring, anfd whilst he does lack the skill set required to make it to elite level but he certainly doesn’t come to lie down in any of his fights.

That attitude means that if he can drag Lee into a battle(and it's a BIG if) then he has a chance of victory.

Lee will be looking to box move and make this an easy nights work - which I sort of expect. But there's no way I can leave Vera unbacked at 6/1 beacuse as former contenders Segio Mora and Sebastian Demers will testify he is one tough Hombre to beat.
