A non-live fight that sticks out next week is Aussie Hero’s latest money spinning venture Danny Green who has been continually pitched against "past it" legends to beat up on expensive Australian pay-per-view and takes on America's Antonio Tarver .
Roy Jones junior and Paul Briggs standout as two recent examples of the type of opponent Green has faced, but to be fair he has built up a decent looking run against less than decent opposition. He is a big name in Australia and the American fighters that make the trek to take him on guarantees a very decent payday.
However in Tarver he faces an opponent next Tuesday (08.00) who is more than capable of bringing that run to an end.
I’m not usually a fan of backing away fighters as there are many factors that we cannot control such as acclimatising to local conditions, fight atmosphere and local food and drink .
But with 100-30 currently being on offer about Tarver I am prepared to make an exception.
Tarver has lost two decisions to one of the best fighters in the world (when his heads straight Chad Dawson) and has built up a decent run.
He is a hurtful puncher and he knows he is running out of time. On the downside he isn’t the most active and he is getting on a bit (42 to Greens 38) but he is still a class above from anybody Green has faced in many years.
I’m a firm believer of if you fight at a lower level for too long it will have detrimental effect on your abilities and Green fits that bill he has been on my "to Get" list for a long time and this looks the opportunity to do just that.
