A New Story caused a 25-1 upset when giving trainer Michael Hourigan and 7lb claimer Adrian Heskin victory in the Cross Country Chase.
The 12-year-old, who had not won for fours years, was given a supremely confident ride by his 17-year-old pilot and after being produced on the outside approaching the last pulled clear on the run-in to beat L'Ami and Lacdoudal.
It was a case of third time lucky for the winner, who had finsihed fourth and seventh in the last two runnings of the contest
Winning rider Adrian Heskin said: “That was absolutely brilliant. I could not have asked for a better ride. I did not want to get there too early as he can idle, but he jumps so well and is very clever.”
The heavily backed favourite Garde Champetre, who was bidding for a hat-trick in the contest, lost all chance when making a terrible mistake five from home and was a spent force approaching the last after trying gallantly to make up the lost ground.
