In a chief support to the Chisora v Fury heavyweight title contest tonight (7pm), Ashley Theophane defends his British light welterweight title against the ageing Welsh warrior Jason Cook.
Theophane goes into this contest having dethroned the previously champion Lenny Daws in emphatic fashion and is looking for a convincing win here to solidify his claims at being better than British title level.
34-year-old cook has had a topsy turvy career really looks up against it here. I felt he struggled in a recent outing against the average Barrie Jones, looking easily out boxed in long periods of this fight before landing a big left to end matters in the 6th Round.
I truly believe Theophane is a class above Cook. A slow plodding Cook will be looking to land the big shot and that is exactly the right style of opponent needed to make the stylish Theophane look good.
I expect Theophane to be one step ahead all night, landing snappy and sharp punches on Cook pretty much at will. Howvere he isn't noted as a big puncher which is why the bookmakers have made the stoppage such a big price but it’s been a long time since Ashley Theophane has fought at this level.
I'm looking at my price spreadsheet and I had the Theophane stoppage price at even money and believe the 15-8 with Ladbrokes is a major price rick.
I was toying with the idea of putting up "Flash Ash" up to win in the 2nd half of fight because I believe it will take a few rounds to get cook out of here but the ko price is so big it’s best not to complicate matters
