Finally the greatest four days on the golfing calendar have arrived, and with the best players (old and new) from around the world playing, it's not going to disappoint.
If someone had offered me 7/1 a year ago on Tiger Woods for The Open this year I would have thought there was something seriously wrong with them upstairs, but here we are on the eve of a British Open at St Andrews and Tiger Woods is 7/1 with not one but two bookmakers. Now with the many concessions which are available this price looks like great value to me, especially with Betfred who are offering a 1/4 the first 6 places, this isn't the best around as Boylesports are going a 1/4 the first 8 places, but they are only 6/1 about the great man. So for the weak and feeble puntinplay followers I advise taking Boylesports offer, for those who have balls of steel, take the 7/1 and reap the rewards.
Obviously I haven't just picked Woods for his price, although that was the deciding factor. Tiger has an excellent record at St Andrews winning the last two Opens which have been there, by 5 shots in 2005 and 8 shots in 2000. And although his form this season hasn't been great he has played his best two tournaments in the two majors, finishing T-4th in both of them. All this points to the return to the winners circle for the greatest golfer that has ever lived.
Another players who gets a notable mention is Scotlands Stephen Gallacher who has hit a rich vein of form in the last few weeks, he also has previous course form having won the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship in 2004. Gallacher is available at a very tempting 125/1 and could reward punters by sneaking into a place.
Selections:
Tiger Woods e/w 7/1 (Betfred)
Stephen Gallacher e/w 125/1 (Betfred, VCBet)
