It's time to get the hot dogs, popcorn and beers in as the NFL starts to get into full swing, and there are three games tonight which make plenty of appeal from a punting perspective.
Jacksonville Jaguars at Carolina Panthers
Cam Newton !!! Holy cow what a superstar he has looked. I’ve only been watching the sport for 6 years and I have never seen a rookie QB like him. I believe he is going to lead the Panthers to their first win of the season as the Jaguars haven’t been up to much this season folding very tamely to the Jets 3-32. The Panthers on the other hand run the Arizona Cardinals close in wk1 (21-28) and giving the Green Bay Packers a dreadful fright before going down 32-33.
The Panthers have passed 83 times and rushed on 48 plays so far this season. The Jaguars only give up 3.2 yards per carry, so I expect all the focus to be opn Cam Newton and think he is gonna deliver.
Baltimore Ravens at St Louis Rams
I have watched both of the Ravens opening games, and having looked sensational against the Steelers they where then awful against the Titans. They travel to the St Louis Rams after the DFENCE primarily let them down in their horror show last week. That will surely be put to rights for this game, and the Ravens have won eight straight in this fixture following a loss since October 2009. When Joe Flacco is on form he really sets the Ravens alight, and that should be the case here.
The Rams still have a few injury woes going into this game and look set to go 0-3 for 4 out of the last 5 seasons. They really didn’t impress on Monday night against the Giants and I expect a similar defeat here against a team superior to that side.
New York Giants at Philadelphia Eagles
Will Vick be playing ? That’s the big question for this encounter. Vick was forced off the field with a concussion for the 4th quarter when the Eagles blew a 10 point lead (much to my cost) in last weeks 35-31 loss to Atlanta. The Coaching team at Philadelphia are playing the usual pre match games in refusing to confirm or deny whether he will start tonight.
However I fully expect him to make the line-up, and by all reports and that is a massive factor in putting these up as a bet this weekend.
The Eagles have a fabulous record against the NYG having won 6 straight against them, and have a fabulous set of offensive options in the main man Vick himself, Lesean Mccoy, and Desean Jackson . They have also signed Steve Smith from the NYG.
By stark contrast the Giants offensive options have declined a lot over the years and this is the big factor to me. I think the Eagles are a few leagues above the waning Giants and I fully expect them to cover the spread.
