The six-year-old was having his first outing for more than 300 days but made steady headway three out to have every chance before fitness took its toll and he weakened approaching the last.
That run should have blown away the cobwebs, and he is now racing off a mark 6lb lower than when last successful in a decent contest at Aintree.
