Son Amix is all the rage for the Fred Winter Handicap Hurdle at next month's Cheltenham Festival after an impressive victory at Navan today.
Tom Cooper's gelding, an expensive French purchase, never came out of second gear to saunter home by 20 lengths from Form Foundations and Asiya.
The 5-2 favourite had been disappointing when heavily punted and pulling hard on his debut, but had obviously learned from the experience and settled well in the hands of Bryan Cooper.
He travelled ominously well throughout and jumped with real accuracy before cruising to the front and quickly putting the race to bed with the minimum of fuss.
The horse is owned by the Whitechurch Stud Syndicate, and there could be some famous celebrations if he goes on to land the Fred Winter as it's members include some of the Goat Syndicate who turned the winner's enclosure into a sea of red and white when Forpadydeplasterer won last year's Arkle.
Coral go a standout 20-1 for the Fred Winter, with Stan James the most impressed going just 12s.
Given the manner of his victory I cannot see the 20s lasting long.
