After the last round of matches, I’ve just had time to catch my breath but I’ve got to admit to feeling quite smug. I successfully predicted French, Irish and Italian wins so I’ve retained my 100% record, albeit only just.
This week’s fixtures look a bit easier to predict but the Championship has already thrown up some surprises so who knows?
Ireland are home to Wales for their last ever game at Croke Park. The win against England will have boosted their confidence and they’ll be further helped by the Welsh policy of giving everybody a decent head start.
Wales play the most attractive brand of rugby in the competition and this high risk strategy will probably result in yet another close game. However I think the streetwise Irish will probably take the spoils by a score.
The Scotland/England game follows at Murrayfield and the Scots will be looking to make it a hat trick of home victories against the Old Enemy. England dominated possession against Ireland but failed to turn this into points. I think we’ll see the same possession pattern in this match but that England will cut loose and win by 10 to 15 points.
In Sunday’s game, I expect French domination and, unlike everyone else so far, they have the game plan to punish the Italian kick and chase tactic. France will except the invitation and run the ball back at them with support and should win by 15 points or more
Premier Review
This is a Cup weekend so the Premier Clubs will be regrouping for the next round of League matches in 2 weeks time.
Most of the excitement is now focused round relegation and Leeds seem to have given themselves a possible lifeline after 3 successive victories. Worcester and Sale are now propping up the table so it looks like a really engrossing end to the season
