Many believe Celtic manager Tony Mowbray is drinking in the last chance saloon whilst a growing number of Hoops fans are of the opinion that the Englishman should have been asked to drink-up weeks ago.
Troubled Mowbray has won fewer points than previous flop John Barnes, a name that still sends a shiver down the spine of Celtic faithfull’s everywhere, but today’s Scottish cup tie against Dunfermline, live on Sky Sports from 12.15pm, conjures up memories of something far worse – Inverness Caledonian Thistle.
With the Bhoys ten points off rivals Rangers in the league, winning only one of their last three games, I wouldn’t put anyone off backing the first division outfit at an attractive 12/1 (Stan James) but although there are plenty of reasons to have an interest in the Pars, I wouldn’t recommend it.
Dunfermline have failed to impress in the league this season and are lucky to be in the cup at all after fielding an ineligible player in the last round.
The home dressing room will be without Gary Mason, Sam Morrow, Stephen Glass and Graham Bayne and with only one home win in their last three, they should struggle.
There’s little doubt that the majority of Celtic’s new signings won’t have ever heard of Dunfermline or their tight East End Park, but the visitors are in desperate need of a win and they should have the quality and fitness to grind it out at 1/4 (Bet365).
Celtic -1 on the handicap looks rather more appealing at the 3/4 on offer from Bet365. New bhoy Morten Rasmussen impressed on his debut and should get the chance again today to add to his goal tally at 11/10 (Coral)
