Stewart Anderson has swept all before him at the World Indoor Singles and the 24-year-old Scot, who works for Bookers cash and carry, is the hot 2-5 favourite to overcome surprise package Nick Brett and make it into Sunday's final.
Some very shrewd punters had piled on the Auchinleck club bowler at 40s before the tournament began, to such an extent that he was slashed into joint-favouritism with most bookies before he had even played his opening match and those gamblers will be sat on their sofas unwrapping their Hamlets when the match kicks off in the afternoon.
The way he has been playing he should get the better of Peterborough man Brett (2-1), although he is certainly no dark horse after a convincing display against 1996 world champion David Gourlay in the first quarter-final on Friday. Brett also dumped 14th seed Simon Skelton out of the competition and although he admitted Anderson will prove a tough opponent, he is confident of making progress – and he may never get a better chance than this of winning the world title and becoming a household name.
But Anderson has been so good this week – especially in his brutal 13-0 annihilation of John Price in the first set of their quarter-final – that I just cannot see beyond him winning this match.
