Ricky Hatton has announced that he will return to the ring at light-welterweight this year and Sky Bet are betting on whether ‘The Hitman’ will manage to shed his excess weight in time for his first official weigh-in.
The firm go 7/2 that Hatton weighs in at over the 140lb light-welterweight limit, 7/4 at under the limit and 10/11 that he weighs in at exactly 140lbs.
Sky Bet’s boxing betting spokesman Scott Springgay said: “Ricky isn’t in the best of shapes right now. He could come in slightly over the weight at his first attempt and have to do a bit of exercise and sweating to get down to the 140lb limit so the 7/2 on offer that he comes in too heavy might be the big value.”
Hatton has been out of the ring since his last fight against Manny Pacquiao last May, when he was knocked out in the second round. Mexican three-weight world champion Juan Manuel Marquez and IBF light-welterweight champion Juan Urango have been mentioned as possible opponents and Sky Bet make ‘The Hitman’ 11/10 outsider to beat Marquez (8/11, drawn fight 25/1) and 2/5 favourite against Urango (7/4, drawn fight 33/1), who he defeated on points in 2007.
