Big Sam Querry is a short priced favourite to take the major ATP event in Newport this week but he had a tough Spring on the European clay followed by an intensive grass court campaign that ultmately resulted in a straight sets defeat by Andy Murray in the quarter final at Wimbledon.
There is nobody in that class in this 250 event but at the current odds the American doesn't make much appeal.
The event in Newport is one of the few to be played on grass in the US and the line-up features the nearly man Falla who took Fedex to the wire in the first round at SW19.
He looks to have a chance on the book but plays the Frenchman Nicolas Mahut in the first round which will be a close call. Mahut is a confirmed grass court performer who gained World wide exposure via his marathon match with John Isner. He has a wild card entry this week and is in the right section of the draw. He can reward a small punt in play.
