Scotland's Stewart Anderson has been the subject of a massive gamble at the World Indoor Bowls Championships at Potters, with punters backing the highly-rated 24-year-old in their droves.
Just seven days ago Anderson, who has been hailed as the new Hugh Duff – world champion in 1988 and 1997 – of the sport was 40-1 with Boylesports, but is now 6-1 with the same bookie, and even went as low as 2-1 on the exchanges with Betfair.
Despite being a relative novice on the World Bowls Tour, Anderson is well thought of amongst his peers and reached the semi-final of the Scottish International Open in November, where he lost on the last end of the tie-break to eventual winner Paul Foster. The Auchinleck star is also the World and Scottish National under-25 singles champion and captain of the British Isles under-25 side.
Anderson has only appeared at Potters once before and that was last year when he went out on a tie-break to John Price in the first round. He begins his bid for glory on Monday against Canada's Fred Fong and is 1-4 to progress to a second round encounter with Mark McMahon.
