Joe McElderry is odds-on at 1-2 to emerge triumphant in next weekend’s X Factor final, according to Betfair customers.
After what was a tense semi final, in which Danyl Johnson was eliminated, McElderry is joined in the final three by Stacey Solomon and Olly Murs.
Intriguingly, once Saturday night’s performances were complete, Murs had become odds-on favourite to be axed in Sunday’s results show, though to the bettors’ surprise, his name was the first to be called out as safe.
The 26-year-old is now the rank outsider to win the show at 6-1, while the chances of a female contestant winning for the third time in the last four years rests with Stacey, who can be backed at 9-2 to take the crown.
Betfair spokesman Ari Last said: “It’s no great shock that Joe is the favourite going into the final since he has been our customers’ pick for several weeks now. Though Olly Murs was the long-time favourite before Joe blossomed, and at a big price to win, there may be a few who fancy a flutter on him to cause an upset.”
