Prizefighter Super-Middleweights

Wednesday live boxing

(First Published: Wednesday 30th June 2010 at 14:06hrs GMT)

Prizefighter returns to its place of birth tonight as eight battle hardened warriors vie for £32,000 from Barry Hearn’s war chest.

British fight fans have grown to love this competition but the latest instalment looks to be a real puzzler for punters in search of that early value. The action takes place at East London’s York Hall and can be followed live on Sky Sports from 9pm.

In the event opener we see Patrick Mendy and Sam Horton dispute the first semi final berth. 19 year old Mendy will be looking to bring a level of amateurish freshness to this match but I feel 24 year old Horton has a big point to prove to himself and his fans after a horror show against James De Gale recently and that determination should see the more experienced fighter prevail. Horton is a decent 6/5 with Paddypower for this contest.

Second in line is Daniel Cadman and Eddie McIntosh. 27 year old McIntosh, nicknamed ‘Braveheart’ is a real do-or-die sort but should possess the skills needed to bypass an opponent with 4 defeats from his last five attempts. You can have 4/11 about McIntosh with Bet365.

Jeff Evans versus Peter Fedorenko is another matrix with neither man looking convincing during their short careers. Welshman Evans is undefeated from three starts and should have momentum onside to go and catch Fedorenko cold with the Sheffield scrapper returning to the sport after 9 months away. Evans is no bigger than the 1/2 with 888.sport.

Lastly we see Paul David face last minute stand in Carl Drake and with the substitute losing four of his last six, a win for David looks attractive at 4/6 (Skybet).

Punters hoping for bigger rewards on the outright market may want to take a chance on Sam Horton bouncing back at 9/1 (Betfred). Horton was totally outclassed against De Gale at Upton Park recently but he has been drawn on what looks like the easier half and could be worth a small each way interest.

Tickets for Prizefighter Super Middleweights are available now at £35 (unreserved), £60 (ringside) and £100 (VIP) - call Matchroom Sport on 01277 359900.
