The quarter final draw has thrown up some intriguing contests with the pre-tournament favourite and 2nd favourite meeting at the earliest opportunity.
First up Prince Arron tackles Canning town fighter George Hillyard for the chance to progress. Both men have won British Masters titles and this should be a worthy curtain raiser. Many struggle to separate these two young men but with Hillyard boxing only twice in the last two years, he should be more than a tad rusty. Prince Arron will enjoy a sizeable height and reach advantage and should box his way to victory at 1/3 (Sportingbet).
Next, favourite Bradley Pryce tackles his closest rival in the betting, Neil Sinclair. Irishman Sinclair is the more experienced fighter, having contested forty professional bouts but after a fifteen year career you’ve got to wonder how much he has left. Pryce lost his Commonwealth title when knocked out by Mathew Hall last year but the Welshman has the skills and younger legs to jab his way to victory at 3/4 (Sportingbet).
Former Prize-Fighter Danny Butler gets another chance to scoop the prize money and opens his account against Birkenhead boxer Brett Flournoy. 22 year old Butler reached the semi-final stage of the middleweight version in 2008 and should know what is required to get past 30 year old southpaw Flournoy who hasn’t boxed since May 2008. Butler can be picked up at 1/2 (Skybet).
The final quarter pairs Middlesex man Steve O’Meara with pride of Leicester, Martin Conception. O’Meara is undefeated to date from a ten fight career but Conception is renowned for his devastating punch power and should have fitness to burn considering the Midlands Area champion won a ten round battle at the start of the month. Conception isn’t fancied by bookmakers though and can be backed at an attractive 6/5 with Paddypower.
