What a great night of action it proved to be at Sunderland for the festival finals, and a profitable one for followers of puntinplay. We had two winners from three selections, with Hurleys Hero advised at 2/1 duly landing the odds returned at 6/4. He did it the hard way battling on strongly getting up on the line to defeat the enigmatic Droopys Zach by a head. Our second winner came in the big one, the Classic, when the aptly named Target Classic ran a corker by just holding off Ballymac Ace by the minimum margin, going off at 7/2, but we were on at 9/2. The double at the advised prices paid a handsome 15 1/2 to one!
We were out of luck with Kinda Easy in the Grand Prix final, who missed the kick when the traps opened. The ante post 7/1 looked huge as he was sent off the 5/4 favourite, and although I am not a layer, I hope plenty of you followers are, because we have had plenty of big priced ante post selections reaching finals.
There was a sad note on the night, when Newlawn Class, recently back to form, went lame approaching the first bend, it looked a bad injury and It was confirmed shortly afterwards that he had broken a hock. Let's hope he can be saved and enjoy covering plenty of bitches at stud.
Sussex Cup
Both our selections are safely through to the semi finals, although Ballymac William sent off at odds of 2/5, had a struggle on his hands as he had to dig deep to beat Boolavogue, who appeared to want company as he disputed the lead with William. Ballymac Rumble also had a battle on his hands as he finished strongly running on from fourth to snatch second behind Head Iton Ellis. Performance on the night was the 29.64 recorded by Chris Lund's Borna Rocker.
We just need luck in the draw to keep the Ballymacs apart!
