Ortolan ran a race full of promise when finishing third last time out and looks sure to go well in the opener at Chepstow today (2.20).
The horse showed some promsie when trained by Alan King and finishing sixth in a bumper last season, and stepped up on that perfromance when making his debut for the David Pipe team at Ludlow.
He was unfancied that day but stayed on nicely in the closing stages to fill third spot behind the useful Cannington Brook and better fancied stablemate Ardkilly Rebel.
The gelding looks the type to continue to improve with racing, and at around 7-1 looks good each-way value against market leaders Quideo de Touzaine and Qroktu.
*Ortolan is cuurently a top priced 15-2 with Betfred and Victor Chandler
