Australia’s Nick O’Hern leads the pack at -7 after the first round of the Fry’s Open in Scottsdale, Arizona, and is a top priced 18-1 with Bet365 to go on and break his duck in US PGA Tour events.
O'Hern, known by golf fans as the "Tiger Slayer" after becoming the first player to beat Woods in match play as a professional, simply sizzled in the sun at the Garyhawk Golf Club.
He reached the turn at level par but then fired eight birdies in nine holes. His longest putts were a 48-footer on the par-four 12th and a 20-footer on the par-four 17th.
But O'Hern has never won a US PGA Tour event, and given the fact that he missed the cut in nine of his first 25 tournaments this year the one to be on could be American Heath Slocum who is also available at a top priced 18-1 with Bet365.
He continues in good form following his win in The Barclays seven weeks ago and finished the opening round just one shot behind O’Hern alongside fellow American Bob Heintz.
Given that he is playing consistently good golf, Slocum looks sure to be in the thick of things if maintaining his current form and at the 18s on offer with the Stoke boys (Ladbrokes go just 14-1) he looks a solid each-way wager to finish in the first four and is definitely worth a punt in play.
