The tennis circus moves onto Canada this week with the prestigious Rogers Cup. It is an ATP 1000 event and as you might expect it has attracted a quality field, with all the usual suspects back from their summer holidays.
The event sees the return of Rafa Nadal and if he is on anything like his Paris and London form he will take this title on his way to winning the US Open. he is a two time winner and the draw has been kind in that his likely quarter final opponent is Andy Roddick, who isn't in the form of his life at present. There is a potential; semi-final clash with Soderling or Murray. Based on the way he destroyed those two at Wimbledon any lost sleep will be based on jet lag.
The value from a puntinplay perspective is Verdasco if he can come back to some of his early season and clay court form. Without Nadal he would have had a wonderful spring. He has already won two titles this season - indoor at San Jose and out door in Barcelona. He didn't make it past the first round in Wimbledon but he should come into the event fresh after a warm up in Washington last week when he went out to Baghdatis in two very close sets. The quarter isn't that difficult as he would play Davydenko in the last 16 before a potential match up with Djokovic in the quarters.
In the third quarter we think that it is worth taking on Fedex and at 4.5 (7/2) we fancy Berdych to repeat his Wimbledon victory, once again at the last eight stage.
Puntinplay bets - Nadal to win the tournament, 3.5 generally. Verdasco each-way at 67 with Betfred and Berdych to win the third quarter, 4.5 with Skybet.
