As owners of Go Native, the Docado Syndicate stand to win a £700,000 share of the £1 million bonus offered by WBX.COM.
So who are the lucky bunch? Iain Turner, PR and Sponsorship Manager for WBX.COM, finds out in a question and answer session .
So who is the Docado Syndicate?
Go Native is owned by three families – the DOyle’s, CArr’s and DOwd’s. Members of the syndicate include Kitty Carr, Eamonn Doyle and Ann Marie Dowd.
Go Native is our only horse. We had been talking about buying one for a year before our old friend Martin Cullinane found Go Native. Where are you all from?
We are from Galway, Ireland. Between us we are all involved with the Park House Hotel in the city itself.
With the £1 million bonus in touching distance if Go Native can secure victory in the Champion Hurdle and win the WBX Hurdling Triple Crown, what are your thoughts?
The WBX Hurdling Triple Crown is a great idea which raises the profile of top class two mile hurdlers.
Obviously it is fantastic for us to be involved with personally. We have the easy job which is what makes the WBX bonus so great. It is all about the horse and WBX have ensured that everyone who looks after Go Native is rewarded. From Noel, who trains him so brilliantly, to Alan McIlroy and the rest of the yard who look after him so well.
Did the WBX Hurdling Triple Crown influence your running plans for the season?
Noel had indicated that the aim was to go for the Christmas Hurdle at Kempton and then the Champion Hurdle at Cheltenham so it seemed logical and highly tempting to go for the £1 million bonus that online bet exchange WBX was offering by taking in the WBX.COM Fighting Fifth Hurdle at Newcastle as well.
So do you have any superstitions?
Kitty Carr is very superstitious and will be wearing the same hat and outfit she wore at Kempton. She is trying to convince us all to wear the same clothes as on Boxing Day.
What will you do with the money?
It is tempting fate to even consider what to do with the £1 million if Go Native won the WBX Hurdling Triple Crown. Next question please!
How many friends and members of the syndicate will be at Cheltenham to watch the crucial third leg of the WBX Hurdling Triple Crown?
Lots.Too many to count! We have pictures all around the hotel of Go Native’s wins plus his trophies and he is very well supported by both the Galway public and all our guests.
The furthest traveller to the whole meeting could be Ann Marie’s brother Sean, who is coming over from Australia for the race if he can get away. His wife Kylie is pregnant and it all depends on how she is getting on
So how do you rate your chances of scooping the £1 million bonus?
We think we have a very decent chance and the current odds seem to suggest the same – I believe he is around 13/2 onWorld Bet Exchange to win the Champion Hurdle at the moment. It looks a very hot renewal however and we are just delighted to go there with a realistic prospect of winning the race and with it the £1 million bonus.
Who do you think will pose the biggest threat?
Everyone in Ireland keeps telling us that Solwhit is the biggest danger to us at Cheltenham and they are the experts. His victory last time out was impressive but we did finish in front of Solwhit at Newcastle when winning the WBX.COM Fighting Fifth Hurdle.
Have you bet on Go Native?
We do bet on him and have obviously enjoyed ourselves with the successes at Cheltenham (2009 Supreme
Novices’ Hurdle) and Newcastle (2009 WBX.COM Fighting Fifth Hurdle) at 12/1 and 25/1 respectively. Some of the syndicate have topped up their potential bonus win by backing Go Native to win the WBX Hurdling Triple Crown on World Bet Exchange. 25/1 was available after Go Native had won the WBX.COM Fighting Fifth Hurdle which we thought was more than fair.
