Before we look at tonight's tricky card at Sheffield, a quick mention of our ante post selections for Romford's Champion Stakes. Raving Black qualified in third, whilst our 20/1 shot Centurion Enry won his heat impressively at an advised 7/2, defeating even money shot Adageo. Our selections have avoided each other in Friday's semi finals, and appear to have a great chance of being in the first two to qualify for the final, live on Sky Wednesday 8th September.
Sheffield
8.15 500m - Boher Paddy has made a perfect start to his career with three wins and is a worthy favourite. However, last week I backed Elwick Bolero (trap 3) on his debut and although beaten into second, he really caught the eye. After missing the break he was almost out of the picture off the second bend, but took off when getting room off the final bend and was only beaten 2 1/4 lengths over 480m at this venue. The extra 20m will help, and he is drawn inside the favourite where if he secures a clear run the 6/1 on offer with Ladbrokes will be massive. It is a big ask tonight, and this puppy, from the same litter as Droopys Oscar, has a lot to learn. But we may not see 6/1 chalked up about him very often, so we must strike now, and he is the nap tonight.
9.10 660m - England Expects in trap 4 is back to form after picking up Droopys Belleti here last week, and if he can secure a clear run, he should be too good for Head Iton Jason. If he were to crack out as he can do it should be race over. The 11/8 with Bet 365 is good enough for me.
9.45 500m - Betfair Steel City Cup Final. Elwick Chris in trap 1 and Mill Pinpoint in 2 are both unbeaten in the competition, and I just favour Kelly Macari's blue jacketed runner. He has blistering pace, but will have to step lively from the boxes, as Elwick Chris boasts decent early toe. But if Mill Pinpoint can trap on terms he should blow them away down the far side.
