It is a case of “friends reunited” in Memphis this week. Roddick is seeded to meet Verdasco in the final as they did at the SAP Open last week.
Roddick has a great record in the event with a 27-4 record and won it in 2009 and 2007. Last year he beat Stepanek in the final. The player with the best record is the German Tommy Haas who has won the event on three occasions, most recently in 2007. As we have said before however, Haas is drinking in the bar next door to the last chance saloon and he is passed over this week.
The player we fancy and one that doesn't have a track record at the event is 6ft 9 giant John Isner. The t American made a big impression, literally and metaphorically, when he played down under at the start of the season. He won his inaugural ATP event with a victory in Auckland and then progressed to the last 16 of the Aussie Open before losing to Murray in straight sets. He wasn't disgraced.
Since Australia he has obviously been recovering from growing pains, because he hasn't played since. At around the 11 mark he looks worth a puntinplay as we can play again if he makes a semi-final appointment with Verdasco.
