My son Michael saddles his his first ever runner in Ireland today when Gloucester lines up for the Galway Hurdle at 4.50 and I am hopeful that he will run a big race.
The ground has come right for him, and on his second to Overturn in last year's Scottish Champion Hurdle he would have a big chance.
He was beaten 4 1/2 lengths by Overturn that day, but now meets Donald McCain's charge on a stone better terms.
Even though the winner has improved since, there is not a lot between them on the book and Glocester really pleased us with his recent second in the Summer Hurdle at Market Rasen.
The huge field and guaranteed fast pace today will also play to his strengths, and if adpating to the unique undulations of Galway he has every chance of going close. At the odds on ffer he looks a bit of each-way value - especially as some firms are paying out on the first five home.
The obvious danger is Gordon Elliott's Dirar who is well handicapped and a worthy favourite.
*Gloucester is currently a top priced 28-1
