Tommy Haas, the German veteran, lost in the first round in Memphis last night in a tournament that he has graced in the past with three victories.
Haas lost in three sets to Belgium Malisse. Andy Roddick won in three sets beating his pal James Blake in a third set tie break. Worth noting for the puntinplay brigade that Roddick has a sensational tie break record this year with a 12-2 record. The Czech Stepenak also lost last night so the competition has lost three seeds before the second round is finished.
Roddick remains the 2.88 favourite.
