The Green Bay Packers are the odds-on favourites at 8-11 on Betfair to win the Super Bowl at Cowboy’s Stadium, Texas, on Sunday.
The Wisconsin outfit previously traded at a high of 11-1, but an impressive campaign, including three straight wins on the road, has seen them shorten dramatically in the betting.
The Packers are tipped for the Vince Lombardi trophy ahead of 2009 Super Bowl champions the Pittsburgh Steelers. Having won their AFC Championship game against the New York Jets in January the Steelers are now an 11-8 shot for victory this weekend.
Following an impressive string of performances in the play-offs, Green Bay quarterback Aaron Rodgers is an 11-8 chance to be voted Super Bowl XLV MVP. Meanwhile Rodgers’ Steelers counterpart, Ben Roethlisberger, can be backed at 3-1 to bag the accolade.
At 5-1 Steelers running back Rashard Mendenhall is favoured to score the first touchdown, while team-mate Heath Miller is second in the betting at 11-2.
Betfair’s Alex Bake said: “The Pittsburgh Steelers have fought long and hard to get the Super Bowl, but they’ll be hard pressed to match the Green Bay Packers’ record in championship showdowns. The betting suggests that this could again be the Packers’ year.”
