Australia's former outdoor world champion
STEVE GLASSON meets Devon boy Robert Paxton in the second of two third round ties at the World Indoor Championships today and I fancy the man from Down Under to rule supreme.
He turned in an accomplished display to see off former world champion, and current World Matchplay title holder, Mervyn King in the previous round and could just have enough about him to edge past the cap-wearing Paxton at 8-11 with Betfred.
Glasson has enjoyed several trips to Potters over the years, but has only made an impression once when reaching the quarter-final in the late 90s, but over the past couple of seasons he has held his own on the World Bowls Tour, reaching the semi-final of the 2008 International Open as well as losing narrowly to the likes of Alex Marshall and Greg Harlow.
A semi-finalist in 2006 Paxton, who is now based in Australia, is an accomplished bowler himself and after defeating Andy Thomson in round two will fancy his chances of progress today. It will be close, but victory can go Glasson's way, possibly via a tie-break.
