Fab Cesc is a 10/1 gem

Gunners skipper begging to be backed

(First Published: Sunday 29th November 2009 at 10:05hrs GMT)

Sometimes the bookies just get a price wrong. Not very often, but occasionally it happens.

If you fancy Arsenal to come out top in Sunday's huge game with Chelsea then who will be the main man?

The best player I have seen this season and the man I would vote for if the Player of the Year awards were dished out at the end of November is Cesc Fabregas.

The Gunners captain has been in sublime form and his performance against Blackburn was the finest individual display of the campaign.

We all know he'll eventually end up back at Barcelona but let's enjoy his talents on these shores while we can.

Now some suggest he is not the same force in the top four head-to-heads but this is a little harsh. True, he can be nullified when tightly marked and Chelsea will bid to do that with Carlo Ancelotti employing his best Serie A-formulated smothering tactics.

But if Fabregas can hit top gear again, he is outstanding value with Ladbrokes to be the man of the match.

The 10/1 is a stand-out price compared to the 6/1 on offer with 888Sport and Blue Square who actually have him at the head of their markets.

Some people might not want to back on the man of the match out of principle because it is just an arbitrary decision from the TV pundits and, if Jamie Redknapp and Frank Lampard are involved, you'd have to fear the injury doubt.

However, we're not letting anything put us off. Fabregas is over-priced at double figures. That's a fact in my view and it means we should have a cheeky punt on the Spaniard and sit back and enjoy the show.

And how about adding Steven Gerrard to be top man in the Mersey derby to the equation at 7/1.

Favourite Fernando Torres is unlikely to play and a Gerrard-Fabregas double with Laddies pays out at 88/1!
