Danyl Johnson is the favourite to be axed from The X Factor Semi-Final this weekend, with his odds to be eliminated trading at 6-5 on Betfair.
After being voted into the bottom two six weeks ago, the 27-year-old has recovered well to make it this far, although if punters are to be believed, his time could now be up.
According to the Betfair markets Olly Murs’ place in the Final is also under threat, with his odds of 15-8 to bring in the least amount of public votes only slightly more generous than Johnson’s.
Should Stacey Solomon be shown the door, female representation on the stage would come to a grinding halt, though at odds of 9-2 to exit, that scenario looks unlikely. And while the aforementioned three contestants have reason for consternation, the same cannot be said of favourite-to-win Joe McElderry, who at 21-1 looks like a nailed-on certainty to move safely through to next week’s finale.
Betfair spokesman Ari Last said: “Simon Cowell will be a worried man come Sunday night, with his last two acts Olly and Danyl seemingly going head-to-head for survival.
“A stunning performance could change everything though, and one perfectly pitched note could see the betting markets react accordingly.”
At punt in play we think the market is spot on in making Danyl fav to bow out, but we are slightly surprised that he is odds against to get the boot.
He has failed to impress in recent weeks and will need the other three more popular contenders to lose their voices if he is to get a reprieve. The suggestion is a small wager at 6-5 on him to go as he should really be odds-on.
