Daniel Thomas isn 't the easiest horse to catch right but is undoubtedly well handicapped at his best and looks worth chancing at 16/1 in the 7.50 at Wolverhampton.
The gelding put in a really solid effort on his debut for Richard Guest when chasing home Monashee Rock at this track, finishing with a flourish after a slow start and not enjoying the clearest of runs before being beaten just 1/2 a a length.
He then blew all chance at the start on his latest outing here when very slowly away before staying on late to finish 6th of 12 to Akraim.
The nine-year-old was also forced to race very wide that day, and was not knocked about whatsoever once it was clear his chance had gone.
Although he has now not scored since December 2009 that win came off a mark of 70 over course and distance, and he is now down to a rating of just 54.
Given that he clearly retains plenty of ability when the cards do drop right that gives him a huge chance from a handicapping perspective.
His tendency to start slowly is an obvious concern, but if he can get away on terms and he gets luck in running then there is little doubt in my mind that he is capable of scoring an overdue success on a track which he runs well.
Martin Harley, who has a 26% strike rate when teaming up with Guest in the past 12 months, is also an eye-catching jockey booking and at 16/1 he looks simply too big to let go unbacked.
Recommended bet: 2pts each-way Daniel Thomas (16/1 Betfred - BOG, totesport)
