Cobblers a shoo-in at Darlo

20-21 Northampton won't be Quaking in their boots

(First Published: Tuesday 26th January 2010 at 00:09hrs GMT)

NORTHAMPTON can heap more misery on Darlington on Tuesday night, with Ian Sampson's men an unmissable 20-21 to secure three more points and maintain their fine unbeaten run.

The Cobblers are on a seven-game unbeaten run and haven't let a goal in in their last five, with goalkeeper Chris Dunn closing in on Alan Starling's record of 595 minutes without conceding. Against a side who have scored a pitiful four at home in the League all season, Dunn just needs to keep out Darlo for 10 minutes to break the record... and I expect him to add another 90 minutes to that tally.

I fancied the Cobblers to win the League at the start of the season, but a poor first half to the season put the kibosh on that, but finally they have found their form and if there is any gimme in this division then it is a clash with a very poor Darlington, who returned to form on Saturday with a crushing 3-0 defeat at Crewe a display which manager Steve Staunton described as "diabolical".

They had shocked Rotherham a few days earlier, winning 2-1 at the Don Valley Stadium, but that was a massive blip as far as the Quakers are concerned and they are set to suffer once more, with Adebayo Akinfenwa maybe the man to inflict the damage and he is 11-2 to open the scoring.

ROCHDALE shouldn't be as big as 4-7 with bet365 to beat Port Vale and they look bankers to cement their position at the top of the table. Without doubt, Keith Hill's men are THE class act in this division and at a general 5-6 they should still be invested in to be top come May.

Having a 29-goal strikeforce certainly helps with Chris O'Grady and Chris Dagnall on fire for Dale this season and it wouldn't surprise me to see either of them on target against Vale. They will just have too much firepower for a Valiants side who couldn't break down a resolute Macclesfield side on Saturday.

Torquay have lost four games on the spin and are spiralling back towards the drop zone and after crashing to a 3-2 defeat to Burton at the weekend after going 2-0 up after 15 minutes, they could be in store for more woe as they travel to BARNET.

The Bees have been on a shocking run, 12 games without a win, but boss Ian Hendon has brought in Peter Shreeves and I fancy them to finally get back to winning ways at 11-8 against a side whose morale will have taken a huge knock. They have some decent players at Barnet, including new loan signing Matt Lockwood, who scored on his debut at the weekend and they will at some point come out of their slump, so why not against the out-of-sort Gulls.
