Captain Chris is now a top priced 12-1 for next month's Arkle after finally breaking his duck over fences with a very easy success in the Pendil Novices' Chase at Kempton today.
The Philip Hobbs-trained gelding, who was sent off the 2-5 favourite, fenced with much more fluency than in previous starts and was far too classy for Adams Island and American Trilogy.
Whilst it was a much improved perfromance, the quality of his rivals was very poor in context to what he will face at Cheltenham and I would personally not be rushing in to back him at 12s.
