For the past two seasons we have hit the post in the Carling Cup. In 2009 we highlighted the chance of Aston Villa at around the 20/1 mark and last year a piece of value was dropped from the sky and some bookies went 16/1 Arsenal after they were drawn away to Spurs. On both occasions we landed the each-way play but were denied the silverware payout.
Manchester United and Chelsea once again dominate the market but one thing for certain is that they will play reserve sides in the early exchanges and for this reason they are passed over.
The competition suits a side not involved in Europe and three teams who might fall into this category are West Brom, Wolves and Bolton. West Brom have made a poor start in terms of the points haul but they did start Manchester United, Chelsea so to have played so well and only gone down by the odd goal in three has been a major achievement. Bolton destroyed QPR and then were shaded out of it in a five goal thriller. Wolves have won both games so far. West Brom and Wolves both make appeal at 50/1 and 80/1 respectively but they are away from home and may suffer from fielding a weakened side. Bolton are a 3’s on chance to take out Macclesfield and made the semi-final of the FA Cup last year. At 33/1 they have to be the call this year.
