Tricky little event down Buenos Aries way this week. The top three in the market are all Spaniards and you know that any tournament that has Horacio Zebballos as a seeded player isn't that strong.
Last week we flagged up Albert Montanes but he fell at the second round stage. This week for the next South American leg of the tour we like Nicolas Almagro.
Almagro is a confirmed clay court player and usually performs well at this time of year. He didn't play in Brazil last week but he won that event in 2008 and has made the semi-final in Argentina in 2008. He is seeded three this week.
His route to the final if all goes to plan would include a quarter against Montanes and then a semi against number one seed David Ferrer. Ferrer would be a strong contender under normal circumstances but he has made a poor start to the campaign. He did make the semi-final in Jo-Berg but he didn't beat anybody in the top 100 and lost to a player in that category at his exit stage. After a first round bye he lost to Baghdatis in Melbourne and had lost a first round match in Auckland in straight sets to a player ranked forty spots below his position.
Not an event for a major investment but Almagro is each-way is the selection.
