Barney McGrew is potentially thrown-in at his best in the 2.00 at Doncaster and looks solid each-way value at 9/1 after an eye-catching run last time out.
Michael Dods' gelding is now 14lb below his last winning mark and has his optimum conditions today.
He landed a Group 3 contest last season off a mark of 100 and started his campaign off this time round with a fine third to Prohibit in Meydan.
That effort looks even better following Prohibit's success in the Group 1 King's Stand Stakes and Barney McGrew followed up that effort with a solid fourth to the useful War Artist.
The eight-year-old subsequently failed to build on those efforts and it's fair to say that he had been way out of form until his run at York two weeks ago.
Held up well off the pace that day he showed all his old spark to finish with a rattle and be beaten just 3/4 of a length into third behind Living It Large.
That run suggested that he was ready to strike again and there is little doubt that he is handicapped to do so.
In a race which should be run to suit he makes plenty of appeal at the 9s on offer.
Recommended bet: 2pts each-way Barney McGrew (9/1 generally available - BOG)
