The race is a new event for the 2011 Cheltenham Festival and not to be confused with the old Jewson Novices' Handicap Chase which has been renamed the Centenary Novices' Chase which is the final race on the opening day..
This new contest gives the leading novice chasers an additional middle distance opportunity between the Grade 1 Arkle Chase (run over two miles) and the Grade 1 RSA Chase (run over an extended three miles).
Obviously there are no stats to work from but it may be worth paying close attention to young horses as those aged eight and over don't have a good record in either the Arkle or thr RSA which are the only races that this can be compared to in any way.
Another possible angle based on thgose two races is to focus on horses that have finished either first or second last time out. They have only been unussceful in three of the 47 runnings of the two races combined.
